Some causes of rheumatoid arthritis need medical care, not self-treatment. Seek help for any of these:
- Persistent symmetric joint swelling and morning stiffness lasting more than 6 weeks (get evaluated early)
- A single hot, red, acutely swollen joint with fever
- Chest pain, shortness of breath, or new eye redness or vision change
What may help
Remedies studied for rheumatoid arthritis, ranked by strength of evidence.
- B Fish oil (omega-3) supplement
Modestly reduces RA joint pain, morning stiffness and tender joints and can lower NSAID use, as an adjunct to standard therapy.
Rheumatoid arthritis needs medical treatment with disease-modifying drugs (DMARDs) to prevent permanent joint damage. Supplements here are adjuncts for symptoms only — never a replacement for that care.
